3 Reasons Orangetheory Fitness Keeps You Coming Back for More

We’re addicted to Orangetheory Fitness—and proud! But what is it about the workout and the atmosphere that we love so much? And how has Orangetheory changed the lives of so many when other workouts fail? There’s more than one reason we can’t get enough of the Orange Zone. Read on—we’ve got the scoop.

Whether sporting an Orangetheory splat-shaped bumper sticker or showing off a new Orangetheory Fitness hoodie, members are loud and proud to be a part of the OTF nation. Orangetheory member experience goes beyond just being members of a gym. We’re part of something bigger—members of a fitness family.

There’s an unspoken acknowledgement, a nod of approval, when we see people repping the orange. “Oh, I know that workout. Yeah, it’s good.” No need to explain it to them. They get it.

Anyone who’s part of our family here at Orangetheory Fitness in Franklin, TN, knows it’s tough. We constantly push ourselves beyond our comfort zone to reach our goals. Are we sore the next day? Yes. But it’s the one workout that can always keep us coming back for more.

So why do we love it so much? And how would you explain it to someone who isn’t part of the fit fam? You can call it fun and say it’s like no other gym or fitness program, but sometimes it’s hard to put your finger on exactly what it is that makes the workout so irresistible and addictive.

In a recent Entreprenuer Magazine article, Charlotte Blank, Executive Director of The Maritz Institute, takes a crack at it. The Maritz Institute is a research and design network that studies human behavior to provide business solutions. Driven to understand how Orangetheory Fitness’s ability to evoke positive emotions has catapulted the fitness franchise to the nationwide sensation it has become today, Blank takes a closer look at the ways the workout leverages human behavior using psychological drivers. In other words, how does it draw us in on a subconscious level, and why are the fit-aholics of Orangetheory so addicted?

Blank’s article highlights 3 ways Orangetheory has taken fitness from “dreaded chore” to “amusing game.”

1.  Orangetheory Fitness makes working out a game.

The heart-rate monitoring component of the workout shows your results on TV screens throughout the studio. This means you can keep an eye not only on how hard you’re pushing yourself during the workout—but how others are doing as well.

Who will get the most Splat Points? Will you get more Splat Points than last time? Will you get       enough Splat Point to “unlock” 36 hours of after-burn? As you know, you rack up Splat Points by spending time in the optimal calorie-burning heart rate zone. What you may not know is that Splat Points indirectly take your mind off how challenging the workout is and shift your focus to earning more points.

As if the colorful heart-rate monitors and Splat Points aren’t enough, there are also year-round weight loss challenges, marathons, and even philanthropic fitness events, including a recent effort in which Orangetheory Fitness raised more than $2 million for ALS.

2.  Orangetheory Fitness anchors your workout to a higher purpose.

Walk into any Orangetheory studio and check out what’s written by members and trainers on the glass walls. From “I burn for wine” to “I burn for a better body,” the Orangetheory Fitness family identifies and shares what we’re working toward. It keeps us focused on our purpose and goals.

From Orangetheory shirts that remind you to “Work for it!” to trainers and staff who constantly give their all to keep members motivated, the entire Orangetheory Fitness experience provides a constant reminder of what you set out to do.

3.  Orangetheory Fitness has successfully created a “fit fam.”

The sense of community among OTF Nation taps into our human need to belong. Not only is OTF swag fun to wear; it’s fun to see. Something about being able to recognize a fellow member—a fellow insider—outside the studio gives us a “HELL YEAH!” moment. The fit, the few, the Orange. It’s like a secret club that’s not a secret. Anyone can join and anyone can do it, but it takes a certain will power to make that lifestyle choice to better yourself for good.

Our Orangetheory Fitness Franklin fit fam wouldn’t be the same without you. We love being able to call this our home and to see smiling, familiar faces working toward a common goal.

You’re not the only one keeping an eye on your Splat Points to see if you win. We’re here to keep you motivated and achieving your fitness goals.

Spring Hours Bring Summer POWER!

Your Orangetheory Fitness Franklin family is here to help you bloom into the powerful individual we know you can be.

You’ve heard it again and again. Fitness isn’t about fad dieting—it’s about adopting healthy lifestyle habits. Call it cliché, but don’t just let it go in one ear and out the other. In reality, your fitness goals are a journey. Whether you’re trying to achieve and maintain a healthy weight or build speed and endurance for your first 5K, it takes time and commitment to get there. Your results started the first day you stepped into the Orange Zone, but this is just the beginning.

We know what you’re capable of, and we’re here to keep you motivated and burning strong every step and row of the way. As we start burning for summer bodies and summer strength, here are some tips and inspiring Orangetheory transformation stories that will help us pick up the pace and go all out for our goals.

Stay motivated with these Orangetheory Fitness tips:
  • Set a goal. Evaluate your current fitness level and set a feasible goal. Whether you want to trim your mile run or 1,000-meter rowing time or you want to drop 5 pounds by next month, achieving goals is about clarity, will power, and focus. When you set a goal, write it down somewhere you can see it, and work a little each day to reach that goal.
  • Schedule a regular workout time. Pick your favorite time of day to exercise and make it a habit. Be realistic: If you’re not a morning person, don’t set yourself up for failure by scheduling a class at 6:00 AM. Your life, your schedule, your Orangetheory workout, your fitness.
  • Think fun! Get involved with your Orangetheory Franklin family and participate in our events, from the Weight Loss Challenge to OTF Marathon. You’ll make wonderful connections and build friendships with people who are all on a similar fitness journey. We don’t call you guys our Fit Fam for nothing!
  • Reach out for support. When we embark on a journey in our lives or start a new project, it can really help to tell friends and family what we’re going through. Not only will these people immediately support our goals, but sharing goals with others helps hold us accountable for these promises we’ve made.
  • Stick with people who cheer you on. That’s easy here at Orangetheory Fitness in Franklin, Tennessee! Our coaches are personally invested in your fitness journey and are happy to help guide you, motivate you, cheer you on, and push you. They know when you totally crush a workout.
  • Reward yourself. Whether it’s a pair of trendy new jeans you’ve been admiring at the mall or an occasional indulgence from your favorite restaurant, you deserve to treat yourself.
  • Remember why you started. Life gets tough sometimes, and sometimes we start to lose sight of what motivated us to adopt a healthy lifestyle in the first place. But remember your goals, focus on how important this is, and reflect on how far you’ve come. Look through old photos and see how much you’ve changed. Visit your doctor’s office for a health assessment. Meet up with old friends and let them admire all your hard work. At Orangetheory Fitness we strive for progress. It’s not about the before and after, it’s about the before and now.

Check out these Orangetheory transformations and step up your game:

Like many of our Orangetheory Fitness Franklin success stories, these members didn’t blossom overnight.

Jack from Creekside, Canada, has reached his current fitness level at the steady pace of a year and a half. You look great, Jack. Keep burning!

Michael of Boca Raton, Florida, lost 35 pounds by heading to Orangetheory 4 times a week for 6 months—and he is STILL burning. Way to go, Mike!

Natalie of La Jolla, California, dropped 33 pounds in just one year. Burning for your pre-baby weight is completely realistic at Orangetheory Fitness!

In one year, Eric and Shannon have lost a combined weight of 50 pounds! We’re so glad they’re part of the Orangetheory team.

Keep in mind that change takes time. If you ask any of our members how they’re feeling today, not one of them will say they regret having embarked on this challenging yet powerful journey for a healthy and fit life.

Spring Clean Your Fitness Routine!

Spring cleaning isn’t just for your closet. Orangetheory Fitness Franklin shares this year’s Spring cleaning checklist to help remove the “clutter” from your fitness routine and get you back on track.

Spring is right around the corner, and you know what that means: Spring cleaning! Along with that old blazer with the shoulder pads that is just never going to come back into style, it’s also time to Spring clean your fitness routine. Winter is a time when many of us slip from our healthy habits, but Spring is a chance for a fresh start!

Although we can’t help you clean out your closet, here are a few tips on how to clean up your act for a healthier, happier, and oranger life! So grab your pen and get ready to start checking things off your list, because we are going to burn through this spring cleaning the Orangetheory Fitness way!

 Toss out those old running shoes.

Running shoes should be replaced anywhere from 300 to 500 miles after the first wear. When you’re going ALL OUT at Orangetheory Fitness Franklin, your focus should be on the workout and how the exercises make your body feel—not the pain or discomfort you’re suffering from a worn-out pair of sneakers. Apply this “to-do” to your other fitness gear as well. If it hurts or makes you uncomfortable, it’s not worth the wear and will ultimately distract you from your workout.

 Forget your fear of food.

We understand that nutrition plays a major role in fitness, but eating well and eating clean doesn’t mean being scared of food! We all need energy for our high-intensity workouts and active lives. Consider consulting with a certified nutritionist about a healthy, balanced meal plan to match your personal fitness goals and individual exercise level. As for a workout that delivers results, we’ve got you covered!

 Say goodbye to distractions.

From blogs and YouTube channels to the latest fitness and health magazines, everyone seems to have a different opinion not only about fitness and weight management but what you’re supposed to look like, act like, and wear. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and get lost in the clutter of all those competing ideas, and many of them may be adding unnecessary steps that may not actually be helping you reach your goals. Take a deep breath, exhale it all out, and re-center all focus on your personal goals and values and your current progress toward those goals.

 Stop treating your workout like a chore.

We’ve got you covered on this one! It’s safe to say that if you hate your workout, you’re not going to get very far on your fitness journey. Here at OTF Franklin we pride ourselves on one-of-a-kind high energy workouts that don’t have you constantly glancing at the clock. Experienced coaches, loud music, and a fit fam that’s giving their all keep you fully energized and engaged in the Orange Zone.

 Get rid of feeling alone.

Your Orangetheory family is right here with you. We’re all together on this fitness journey, with truly amazing things we’re burning for. And your trainers are always here to keep you motivated and burning on the right path with challenging, calorie-burning moves. So join in and remember that we’re here for here for you—and here for each other.

 Toss out the doubt.

Don’t second-guess the fitness process. Our workouts are backed by science. If you’re eating right and working out your body WILL change; it’s just a matter of time. Stress, on the other hand, has been linked to weight-gain—so quit stressing it! Just keep burning!

 Lose your vision of “the end.”

Fitness isn’t a destination; it’s a journey. Rather than focusing on the end result—that perfected vision of what you want to look like some day—make the journey fun. Try delicious new recipes, go outside with your loved ones and get active, and most importantly, make sure you love your workout. (We love you too!)

 Don’t ever forget to reward yourself.

Whether you’ve reached this week’s weight loss goal, trimmed down the time it takes to run a mile, or finally fit into those old skinny jeans, no accomplishment is too small to be acknowledged. Keep in mind that fitness journeys have their ups and downs. Don’t punish yourself when something doesn’t go as planned. Even if you don’t progress as quickly as you had wanted or almost reached your goal (but not quite), celebrate the fact that you are working toward your goals. Not everyone can say that! Whether treating yourself to a sports massage, a new outfit, or even an occasional cheat meal, you deserve a pat on the back!

Spring cleaning is pretty easy, right? You’ve totally got this! Just throw out those bad habits and get ready to spring toward your goals with a fresh orange fitness routine.

Don’t forget to like Orangetheory Fitness Franklin on Facebook so you can stay up to date with tips and tricks, events, and motivation to help keep you on track.

Burn for YOU this Valentine’s Day

We’re focusing on love at Orangetheory Fitness Franklin. Celebrate Valentine’s Day the right way by trying out this “fitting” recipe for self-love and heart health.

Dim the lights and crank up the romance, because this Valentine’s Day is going to be the Best. One. Yet!

It doesn’t matter whether your Facebook page says “Single,” “In a relationship,” or “It’s complicated,” because this year it’s all about focusing on the number one person in your life: YOU.

We’ve been helping you with your fitness goals every time you burn with us at Orangetheory Fitness Franklin—and what awesome goals they are! But we’d like to ask you to add this very important goal to your list: Love yourself.

Loving yourself and making an investment in your heart’s health will affect your mood and ultimately benefit all aspects of your life. The science behind the mood benefits of exercise enable us to provide a place for you to destress, relieve anxiety, and battle even the slightest trace of depression. When you push yourself to the Orange Zone you remind yourself that YOU are the one in control of your own life. You’re capable of anything you set your mind to and deserve all the love in the world.

We want you to believe it as much as we do. Follow our Recipe for Self-Love and Heart-Health, and you’ll be on the rose-lined path to burning for YOU—for Valentine’s Day, and for life!

OTF Franklin’s Recipe to Self-Love and Heart-Health:

Step 1:

Set new goals and compete with yourself. Keep a close eye on those splat stats as you push yourself in the Orange Zone and you’ll start beating your personal best in no time. Instead of wasting time comparing yourself to others, focus on being a better you every single day.

Step 2:

Treat yourself to some new workout threads! This is the perfect Valentine’s Day gift to help motivate you and keep you focused on your physical goals. We’re not saying it has to be OTF gear, but we do think you look awesome in orange! ;)

Step 3:

Try a new healthy recipe. Cooking is another way to feel accomplished, especially if you’ve learned how to prepare a new dish—and healthy, guilt-free eating will help you feel good about yourself. You can also spice things up in the kitchen by trying a different, healthy spin on a dish you’ve already learned how to prepare.

Step 4:

Get serious about your sleep routine. Sometimes we get so caught up in our busy lives that we forget how important that REM time really is. Sleep deprivation can cause weight gain and lead to chronic health problems like high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. Give your fitness journey a head start every day by getting enough sleep.

Step 5:

Seek balance. Trust us, we get that you’re busy! But all work and no play is no way to live. Your 60-minute workout at OTF Franklin is a great way to lock in some well-deserved “me” time and have fun while working on a better you. And we bet you can find even more ways to make sure you’re giving yourself time to do the things YOU love, for no one but YOU.

Step 6:

Stop being so hard on yourself. In other words: Chocolate!! (What kind of Valentine’s Day blog would this be without chocolate?) Chocolate and other cheat foods happen, so don’t beat yourself up about it. No reason to make yourself feel bad for the occasional indulgence. Sometimes cravings even happen for a reason. Did you know that dark chocolate stimulates the production of endorphins and is thought to be good for your brain? It also contains flavonoids that can help lower blood pressure and reduce cholesterol. Yum! Just remember—moderation is key.

Step 7:

Give back. Contributing to something of value to your community can really make you feel good about yourself and help you feel like you’re part of something important. We’re proud to be partnering up with Augie’s Quest as part of OTF Nation’s pledge to raise one million dollars to help find a cure for ALS. With two ways to donate, freebies for members who donate, prizes for top studios, and a 90-minute “Augiethon” workout, we’re ready to start burning for a cure. Don’t miss this opportunity to #IBURN4ALS and give hope to thousands of people fighting to keep their muscles. Stop by the front desk for more details.

Still fresh into 2017 and with Valentine’s Day on the mind, now is the perfect time to get focused on your heart-healthy journey. If you haven’t started burning with us at Orangetheory Fitness in Franklin, TN, our fit family is ready to welcome you with open arms and open heart. Commit to loving yourself by signing up now: http://bit.ly/2cLHOdK.

10 Times Erin Andrews Crushed It in 2016

Erin Andrews—professional sportscaster, Dancing with the Stars celebrity, and our newest Orangetheory Fitness fit fam member—crushed it in 2016 and will continue burning to motivate us through 2017.

It’s that time of the year again—when we look back on how quickly the past year flew by and reflect on our fitness and health journeys.

Our new Orangetheory fit fam member, Erin Andrews, is a reminder to us all to live up to our potential. Erin Andrews is a butt-kicking gal on the go with an impeccable sense of fashion and a health regimen that would put most athletes to shame. A professional sportscaster and TV personality, the University of Florida grad is best known for her work with ESPN, Fox Sports, and ABC’s Dancing with The Stars. You may also recognize her from her cameo in the movie What to Expect When You’re Expecting.

Erin is living proof that a woman on the go can stay focused on her health and fitness. We are so proud to offer her a nationwide fitness family she can visit in almost every state she travels to for work.

As we begin to burn toward our goals for 2017, we draw inspiration from this fitness icon, who burned beautifully through 2016.

Here are 10 times Erin Andrews crushed it in 2016!

1. When she dazzled all who saw her at the CMT awards. Even more impressive than the three gorgeous outfits she rocked on stage is her unmistakable confidence and happiness—two things you should definitely strive to burn for in 2017.

2. When she gracefully chatted with Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night show. Erin Andrews is the definition of confidence. Her commitment to fitness has really paid off!

3. When she had fun with Snapchat filters behind the scenes on Dancing with The Stars. We love Snapchat too, Erin! This is a great reminder that she’s not so different from the rest of us. What sets her apart is that she has truly gone All Out to achieve her dreams—and you can, too!

4. Every time she visits an Orangetheory Fitness studio. If Erin Andrews has 60 minutes to burn calories and make health a priority, so do you! And she’s always in there with a smile.

5. The time she took a selfie with Chrissy Teigen and Anita Patrickson. This picture is the definition of girlfriend goals. Have you met any new friends since you started working out at Orangetheory Fitness Franklin? Working out with friends can help you keep your fitness goals. Make it a point in 2017 to introduce yourself to more of your classmates and really take advantage of the family community we’ve created here in our studio.

6. When Fox Sports invited her to re-sign her contract. Best known for her work as a sports newscaster, Erin signed for her fourth year as lead sideline reporter for the NFL. You go, girl! OTF Nation is proud to have you on our team!

7. That time she appeared on Kelly and Michael. Leave it to Erin to look fantastic that early in the morning! If she can wake up and immediately crush it, so can you. No excuses!

8. When she hosted Dancing with the Stars. Confidence is beautiful. Erin’s radiance is a product of her commitment to fitness and health—and is completely obtainable by anyone who’s ready to do the same at Orangetheory Fitness.

9. When she joined the Orangetheory fit fam! We are so incredibly proud that Erin chose to add the OTF workout to her healthy lifestyle. Our high-energy and high-intensity are just what she needs to stay motivated as she gets through her busy days.

10. When she got engaged to professional hockey player Jarret Stoll. What a gorgeous couple! Congratulations, Erin!

This year, let’s focus on being the best versions of ourselves—just like Erin always does. There is no before and after—and no room for excuses. Grab 2017 by the ORANGE and let’s keep burning! If you haven’t joined our Orangetheory fit fam in Franklin, TN, yet, sign up now!

Being part of a group that is constantly working to push themselves further is the irreplaceable experience you get at Orangetheory Fitness Franklin, no matter your fitness level, age, or busy schedule. We are an unwavering community working toward a common goal to constantly improve. The atmosphere of our studio is an infectiously high energy you won’t find anywhere other than OTF Nation.

Erin shares this message in a recent Instagram post: “If you want to be pushed in your workouts, look up an Orangetheory Fitness. My favorite time is when I’m tired, sticking out my tongue, and they say ‘C’mon! 90 more seconds!’ I always know I have more to give and am always so thankful I did.”

We love burning with you, Erin! Here’s to a happy and healthy 2017.

Do you burn to be a better person? Bri Rogers does. She’s the head trainer at Orangetheory Fitness Montgomery Plaza Fort Worth. Orangetheory members inspire her to learn more and become an expert in everything related to health and fitness.

Coach Amy at Orangetheory Fitness Preston Frankford shares an important message about health and fitness: She burns for seeing members’ progress, which often includes incredible weight loss but is about so much more than that—like getting to watch someone’s first plank ever or seeing their performance continuously improve. Amy loves building relationships with members, discovering their capabilities, and helping them change their lives.

Orangetheory Fitness Waco Coach Rachel Kent burns for her family and strives to set a positive example by living a healthy lifestyle. Her passion for Orangetheory Fitness comes from its uplifting atmosphere full of motivation—along with her ability to inspire members through her coaching. She finds fulfillment in helping members reach their goals every day as they continue to grow emotionally and physically throughout their fitness journeys.

Does the awesome music in your Orangetheory sessions keep you burning at your Push and All Out pace? Chuk, a coach at Orangetheory Fitness Addison, loves to see members’ heads nodding to the beats he plays in his classes. The impact he has by leading great workouts keeps him proud to be part of Orangetheory Nation.

Kelsey, a trainer at Orangetheory Fitness Tigard, knows that all members have their own goals—just like she has her own goals! She burns to help members achieve their aspirations. One of her personal goals is one that’s echoed by members across OTF Nation: wanting to take care of her kids and make sure they lead healthy lifestyles.

Coach Terri Devore from Orangetheory Fitness Waco is passionate about helping members see their fitness journeys as more than just a fight against inches and weight—that fitness affects every part of their lives, from mood and stress to brain power, and helps them become a better version of themselves. She recognizes her Orangetheory studio as a family that supports one another with friendship and accountability, where they’re serious about getting results and have fun along the way.

Nancy, Head Trainer at Orangetheory Fitness Princeton, burns for members’ progress. From increased “Push” and “All Out” paces on the treadmills to members choosing heaver weights, she loves contributing to their performance improvements. And when it comes to her own fitness goals, Nancy burns for a sexy back!

Like the rest of us, Dana O’Neal, Head Trainer at Orangetheory Fitness Coppell, loves being in the studio! She burns for giving members the best 60 minutes of their day. She thrives on being able to make changes in members’ lives, from their fitness to their overall health.

Kiersten Schwinn, Head Coach of Orangetheory Waco, shares how her family’s health has motivated her to fight every step of the way to be the best version of herself. Kiersten enjoys the way Orangetheory unites people from all different backgrounds, who all have their own goals, to come in together for an hour and work toward better versions of themselves. The reward she finds in being able to give members an hour of me time is immeasurable. While members often thank her for changing their lives, she also must thank them for changing hers.

We love our Orangetheory Fitness trainers here in Franklin—and we know how much you do, too! Give your favorite trainer a shout-out when you leave a review on our Facebook page. Your success, passion, and motivation keep them burning to give you the best one-hour workout in the country!

Start Burning Even More for the Holidays

Get motivated to look and feel your best this holiday season with these tips from Orangetheory Fitness in Franklin, TN.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, marking the start of the holiday season, and 2017 will be here before we know it. The days are getting shorter yet busier, and the holidays can throw us off of our routines. But with the right focus and motivation, combined with the best tips, you can heat things up and increase the BURN this fall and winter—starting NOW.

By starting to burn even more now, you’ll look and feel your best in time for the holidays, for all your family and friends to see. Not to mention the stress of all those family gatherings and travels. Burning calories at Orangetheory is a great way to spend time on you and burn away that stress.

New Year’s resolutions are great, but why wait? Every day is an opportunity to start working on a new you. If you push yourself and start coming in to Orangetheory Fitness Franklin just one more day a week (and not even a whole day—just 60 minutes), imagine the difference it will make!

Get Orange

Amid turkey and gravy and pie galore, burning calories for up to 36 hours after your session means that if you schedule classes before holidays, you can continue burning during those big holiday feasts.

Another benefit of spending more time in the Orange Zone during the holidays? You’ll get to spend time with your Fit Fam during this beautiful season.

But you already know your healthy lifestyle doesn’t end when you leave the Orange Zone. Here are some tips to help you burn more than ever this holiday season.

Stay Active

In Fall and Winter, our inclination is to go into hibernation mode with the remote and our favorite comfort food—but curbing that habit can make reaching your fitness goals much easier. Colder weather is the perfect opportunity to warm up by getting active. Why not put your Orangetheory training to the test and sign up for your first 5K? We’ve seen how you push in class. We know you can do it!

Another fun idea? Take a quick weekend getaway to explore a new city. Get outside, walk around, and see it all. Ice skate at an outdoor rink downtown, or go kayaking through a tropical paradise.

Eat Smart

Don’t worry, we’re not telling you to ditch the pumpkin pie or any of the holiday staples. But going All Out is better saved for your sessions at Orangetheory Franklin than for dinner and dessert. It’s all about balance and moderation—and remembering how much better you feel when you don’t stuff yourself. (Stuffing is for turkey!)

And if you find yourself reaching day-in and day-out for high-calorie treats like egg nog, a quick search on your smart phone can help you find dozens of healthy alternatives that mimic the real deal.

Involve the Family

The holidays are about being with family. Go on a group walk after dinner to enjoy the crisp air and keep the conversation going with loved ones; it will help you fight the food coma and get your metabolism going.

Even better? Make your family part of your Fit Fam here at Orangetheory Fitness Franklin. Give us a call at 615-504-1110 to get them set up with a free session, and encourage them to start burning for their future. Giving the gift of health is the best holiday gift to show how much you really care.

Hell Week at Orangetheory Fitness Franklin is “Scary Good” for Your Health

We’re taking a look at some motivating fitness stats and stories for Breast Cancer Awareness and Mental Health Awareness month as we get ready for a week of intense workouts at our Orangetheory studio in Franklin, TN.

Hey Franklin, getting scared? Hell Week is just around the corner. Starting October 24 and leading right up to Halloween, we’ve got a week’s worth of tricky workouts lined up for you, with fun themes like “Death Row.” Which brings us to everyone’s favorite Halloween question: Trick or Treat?

October is both Breast Cancer Awareness and Mental Health Awareness month—so it’s an important time to remember just how important your Orangetheory workouts are for your health. Hell Week workouts might make it seem like the trainers here at Orangetheory Fitness Franklin are playing a trick on you (mwa-ha-haaaa!!), but we’re actually treating you to the perfect excuse to get in here more often, step up your fitness game, and do something really good for your body.

Burn for Health

We’ve been listening to your goals and loving the “What Do You Burn For?” memes you’ve been sharing on Facebook and Instagram. Some of our favorites:
  • I burn for Taco Tuesdays
  • I burn for class reunions
  • I burn for my kids
  • I burn for my next marathon
  • I burn for sanity
  • I burn for my pre-baby body
From weight loss and guilt-free eating to happiness, confidence, and endurance, all of the fitness motives shared across Orangetheory Nation tie into one broader goal: health. One of Orangetheory’s main objectives is to improve the overall health and welfare of as many people as possible.

It’s not rocket science; everyone knows there’s a correlation between fitness and health. But let’s dig into some facts and figures about breast cancer and mental health that may just help give you that extra push off the couch and into the Orange Zone.

Burn for Breast Cancer Treatment and Prevention

Our hearts go out to everyone who has been effected by breast cancer—whether you are a patient, survivor, or know someone going through treatment. We burn for you!

Some stats from Breastcancer.org and the American Cancer Society:
  • Exercise can reduce both the risk and recurrence of breast cancer.
  • At least 150 minutes of exercise a week is recommended to lower overall risk of cancer.
  • Losing 5 to 10 percent of body weight can reduce a woman’s risk of breast cancer.
  • Breast cancer survivors who exercise at least 150 minutes a week are 25% less likely to experience severe complications.
We’ve heard inspiring stories of Orangetheory members who consult with their doctors and continue working out with us through treatment, or others who have gone on to found non-profit organizations that provide women with access to the best treatment options, medicine, and technology. To show your support of breast cancer awareness, we’d love to see our members come in to the OTF Franklin studio wearing pink or a pink ribbon. Be sure to snap a selfie and share it with us on Facebook.

Burn for Mental Health

A Washington Post article highlights a wide range of health benefits linked to Orangetheory’s high-intensity interval training, including the psychological benefits of a varied workout. And as a member you also already know how good it feels to see your stats on the monitor as you push and go all out—not to mention that positive vibe we get from seeing and being with our OTF Franklin Fit Fam.

Some motivating stats from the National Institutes of Health and health.usnews.com.
  • Aerobic exercises have been shown to reduce anxiety and depression.
  • Exercise leads to improved sleep, stress relief, improvement in mood, reduced tiredness, and increased alertness.
  • 30 minutes of exercise of more increases chemicals in the brain that help us relax, like serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine.

In a story for Sports Illustrated, Brendon said he’s now in the best shape of his life. “I have run my fastest mile and fastest three-mile times,” he said—“at the age of 39.” He even went on to operate multiple Orangetheory studios in California. “The OTF team is similar to a football team—we’re always improving on a constant basis and I’m going to do everything I can to be my best and make my team better.”

We’re always excited to cheer for new members of our Orangetheory Fitness team here in Franklin, TN. Do you remember how scary your first OTF session was? OTFers across the nation have been sharing their first-time Orangetheory experiences. Take a look!

We’d love to hear your story, too! Share a video with us on Facebook.

Everyone on the OTF team may burn for something different and be at a different performance level, but we’re all a team, and we all want to help each other WIN!  Once you’re finished with your Fantasy Football picks, think about who you’d draft for your Orangetheory Fantasy team. Step up your game and start scoring some major Splat Points—and encourage your teammates to do the same! Keep burning, Franklin!
